Dangerous devices and substances were allegedly attempted to be smuggled through the territory of Georgia, with Russia as the delivery point. According to the country’s security service, Odesa is involved in this operation.

The Georgian Security Service (GSS) said it had identified explosive devices allegedly being transported from Ukraine to Russia. The case involved an Odesa man who ran for deputy from the “Servant of the People” party in 2020.

According to the GSS statement, during the inspection of the minibus, which belongs to a Ukrainian citizen, explosive devices were found disguised as two electric vehicle batteries. Each of them contained six devices containing C-4 military explosives that can be activated with an electric detonator and a special timer. The total weight of the explosives was 14 kilograms.

“Six units of detonators and six units of special keys were also placed in the containers. The same number of electronic activation timers were installed in all six individual boxes of the explosive device, in which the activation time had already been programmed,” the Georgian side said.

It is alleged that the devices and substances were transported to Georgia from Odesa via Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey, passing through the “Sarfi” checkpoint in a minivan. It was planned that this “parcel” would be delivered to Voronezh through the “Daryal” checkpoint.

The GSS claims that the organization of the “process” was led by Andrei Sharashidze, who ran for deputy of the Odesa City Council from the “Servant of the People” party in 2020. He is originally from Batumi. Sharashidze monitored the movement of the mentioned explosive devices from outside Georgia.

The Georgian Special Service claims that all six devices were manufactured by a high-level specialist and have a defeat potential greater than a TNT charge. At present, the GSS continues to carry out activities to investigate the incident.
