Temu Fined €200 Million by EU Over Dangerous Toys, Chargers
Temu was hit with a 200 million euro ($232 million) fine Thursday after a European Union investigation found the Chinese online retailer failed to protect consumers from illegal products like toxic or hazardous toys and unsafe electronics.
EU regulators have fined the Chinese shopping website Temu €200m (£173m) for failing to stop the sale of illegal and dangerous products.
Further penalties could follow in the coming months as a result of a nearly two-year investigation under the Digital Services Act that requires large online companies to do more to tackle illegal and harmful content on their platforms.
But it has come under fierce scrutiny since October 2024 when the EU opened its investigation, which preliminarily found, in July last year, that Temu had breached landmark rules over the risks of illegal products.
