US aid to Ukraine could be approved this week

Mike Johnson will propose separate funding bills for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

Mike Johnson will propose separate funding bills for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

The Wall Street Journal says that the aid will be separated because “Republicans, as well as some Democrats who disapprove of increased aid to Israel, could be enough to defeat the bill.”

One of the Republicans said his colleagues wanted to vote on aid to different states independently. The politician did not elaborate on the details of the bills, saying only that a vote was planned for this week.

“The proposal, while it could help the House bypass an immediate hurdle, could complicate efforts to get aid packages to Biden’s (President Biden, – Ed.) desk by requiring new action from the Democrat-controlled Senate, where lawmakers may not agree to any changes planned in the House,” the piece reported.

According to the publication, plans to pass a bill that proposes to use Russian assets to finance aid to Ukraine, as well as banning or selling TikTok.

“Johnson said he has not yet decided whether the four bills if passed, will be sent to the Senate individually or as a package,” the journalists wrote.
