A new British intelligence investigation into the Putin regime’s financial machinations.
According to a recent report from the British Defense Ministry, Russia has been distributing seized assets to businesspeople who demonstrate particular loyalty to the regime and have supported the invasion of Ukraine. This strategy represents Putin’s practical approach to creating the so-called “new Russian elite,” a topic he extensively discussed in his annual state-of-the-nation address to the Federal Assembly. This is also Putin’s way of reducing the influence of foreign businesspeople on the Russian economy.
British intelligence also highlights that increased military spending has particularly increased the financial pressure on the state. The anti-war sanctions of Western countries with the withdrawal of capital abroad have contributed to this pressure. Due to the de-privatization of Russian enterprises, the authorities have established control over companies in strategically important industries, particularly in the military sphere.
