The Russian military has started strikes against Ukrainian ships. This month they attacked two Ukrainian patrol boats and a landing ship. At the same time, the Russian attacks are proving to be completely unsuccessful and quite different from the Ukrainian attacks.
The Russians are using “Lancet” kamikaze drones. They do not cause too serious damage, only above the waterline, so none of the attacked Ukrainian ships sank.
All Russian attacks did not take place on the high seas, but in the delta of the Southern Bug River near the city of Mykolaiv. This area is about 40-50 kilometers from the front, within the maximum range of Russian kamikaze drones. Attacks at such a distance speak to the Russian Navy’s fear of going to the high seas for military operations.
Russian Z-bloggers are already proudly calling these attacks “revenge for the Black Sea Fleet.” In reality, however, the scale is not even close to being comparable.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Black Sea Fleet has lost 14 warships. This year alone, Ukraine has attacked and sunk three large warships of the Black Sea Fleet by water drones, including the heavy landing ship “Caesar Kunikov” and the missile corvette “Ivanovets”. The biggest loss for the Black Sea Fleet, however, was the missile cruiser “Moskva”, which was the flagship of the Russian Navy.
The Ukrainian ships that suffered from the attacks were deployed only for patrolling in the Mykolayiv region and did not perform any offensive functions.
