Pro-Business Leader Wins Re-Election in Zambia Vote Marred by Fraud Allegations
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) declared Hichilema the winner on Tuesday after he secured 2,965,326 votes against Mundubile’s 1,856,217, giving him another five-year mandate after first taking office in 2021.
Hichilema's win was widely expected, with his closest challenger Brian Mundubile getting 38% of the votes.
Hichilema won 2,965,326 votes, far surpassing the constitutionally required 50% plus one threshold of the majority vote.
