West plays nice on AI in bid to shut out China

The wars in Iran and Ukraine have dominated discussions at the Group of Seven summit of major industrialized nations this week but AI will have its moment on the meeting's final day.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis called for a U.S.-led coalition to shape rules and standards around artificial intelligence at a meeting with tech leaders and heads of state, including President Donald Trump, CNBC has learned.

The comments come a few days after the Trump administration blocked Anthropic from exporting its newest Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models on national security grounds.

The third and final day of the summit will focus on economic growth and digital security.
