U.S. Representative to the UN Robert Wood said at the ongoing Security Council meeting what U.S. diplomats have already told reporters: the United States will not support the proposed resolution for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
“The United States is all for a lasting peace in which Israelis and Palestinians live peacefully and safely, but we do not support calls for an immediate cease-fire,” Robert Wood said. – “It will only sow the seeds of another war, because Hamas does not want a lasting peace.”
The U.S., as a permanent member of the Security Council, has veto power, so a cease-fire resolution has no chance.
