US judge drops criminal charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani

Adani and seven others had been indicted in November 2024 in a New York federal court on criminal charges related to an alleged bribery and fraud scheme.

In its judgement, Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the District Court for the Eastern District of New York dismissed criminal charges against the Adanis related to securities and wire fraud with prejudice.

Judge Garaufis's decision to grant federal prosecutors' rare bid to toss the case came after he inquired into their reasons for doing so, including whether Adani's November 2024 promise to invest $10 billion in the U.S. was a factor in the decision to drop the charges.

Adani and his companies have consistently denied wrongdoing.
