US Efforts to End Iran War Stumble as Ship Seized Near UAE
The ship was anchored around 38 nautical miles (44 miles) off the coast of the port at Fujairah, a major hub for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) near the Strait of Hormuz.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which a fifth of the world’s oil used to pass through on a typical day, continues to capture the world’s attention as Iran’s grip has jolted the world economy and caused a spike in fuel prices that has rippled through other sectors with effects far beyond the Middle East.
India has strongly condemned an attack on an India-flagged commercial ship off the coast of Oman, calling the strike “unacceptable” amid rising tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Fujairah is a major international hub for oil tankers to load and discharge cargo.
