US calls on China to play an ‘active’ role in ending Iran war, despite Trump rhetoric
President Donald Trump traveled to China today for a two-day summit with President Xi Jinping.
Trump is on his first visit to China since 2017, and has been hoping for tangible results that might improve his dented approval ratings ahead of crucial midterm elections.
US president Donald Trump was expected to ask China to help end the costly and unpopular Iran war in discussions with president Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday, with peace talks stalled and the global economic cost of the conflict increasing.
But amid stalled peace negotiations and growing tensions over the continued closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, fears that the war could flare again are fueling a sense of disquiet in the country.
