UK eases sanctions on Russian oil refined into jet fuel and diesel
A trade licence that came into effect on Wednesday permits the imports indefinitely and will be reviewed periodically.
The carve-out effectively enables the United Kingdom to resume fuel shipments from major hubs like India and Turkey, which process discounted Russian crude and re-export it.
This will see an easing of restrictions as fuel costs surge, which has put pressure on airlines and households alike, largely driven by the Iran war.
The waiver begins on Wednesday and reflects growing supply concerns over certain fuels due to the effective blockade of the key Strait of Hormuz waterway since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran.
