Trump welcomed to Versailles for dinner with Macron
On Wednesday night, the French president throws open Louis XIV’s palace to his U.S. counterpart for a private reception, show and dinner marking America’s 250th birthday.
French President Emmanuel Macron clearly hoped for a return on the investment when he hosted Donald Trump at the palace almost two decades later.
But France founded the G7 and as the host this year, Macron was keen to leave a legacy preserving it behind him: it’s his last G7 before a French presidential election in which he cannot run.
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte hosted U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday at the Palace of Versailles, once the opulent residence of Louis XIV, the Sun King, as part of efforts to improve transatlantic relations.
