Trump tightens visa rules for students, exchange visitors and foreign journalists
President Donald Trump's administration finalized rules on Thursday, July 16, that impose stricter limits on how long foreign students and journalists can stay in the United States, the latest bid to tighten legal immigration in the country.
These visas currently allow stays for the entire duration of a program or U.S.-based employment.
It marks the latest step in Trump’s broader crackdown on immigration since returning to office in January 2025.
