Trump signs executive orders targeting birthright citizenship and 'birth tourism'
The move follows the Supreme Court's June 30 rejection of Trump's earlier executive order seeking to deny automatic citizenship to some children born in the United States to noncitizen parents.
An earlier effort by Trump was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court in June, prompting him to call upon Congress to act.
At a ceremony on Thursday the president was flanked by Stephen Miller, the architect of his deportation program, as he unveiled two orders targeting birthright citizenship and “birth tourism”, which Republicans argue is a massive source of fraud.
People who engage in birth tourism schemes could be prosecuted for fraud or other related crimes.
