Trump administration asks OpenAI to limit next model release over security concerns
OpenAI releases GPT-5.6 to select users vetted by US government
OpenAI launched three new artificial intelligence models on Friday, while limiting early access to a small group of “trusted partners” in line with a request from the U.S. government.
In other words, the Trump administration appears to be pressuring OpenAI to do what Anthropic is already voluntarily doing: keeping its most powerful AI models under wraps.
The request comes after the administration placed an export control order on Anthropic, leading to the AI company pulling its latest most advanced models Mythos and Fable.
