The Senate Should Reject Todd Blanche

President Donald Trump touted widespread drops in violent crime and murders under acting Attorney General Todd Blanche ahead of his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week.

A group of Jeffrey Epstein abuse survivors are calling on senators to reject Todd Blanche’s attorney general nomination amid controversy over his department’s handling of the case files.

Assuming members of the Judiciary Committee vote along party lines to advance Blanche’s nomination to the full Senate, a single GOP defection could derail his path.

Trump tapped Blanche, his former personal attorney, to serve as the deputy attorney general, the justice department’s No 2 position, at the start of his term, where he steered the department’s day-to-day work as career employees were purged over their connection to Trump investigations and the president oriented the department towards punishing political rivals and investigating debunked conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
