For the second day in a row, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has staged provocations with shooting along the border with South Korea.
Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea reported this.
On Saturday, January 6th, North Korea fired several artillery shells into the waters near the South Korean Yangpyeong Islands group.
Seoul reported that the DPRK fired about 60 artillery shells off its southwest coast within an hour after 16:00 local time.
In response, South Korea called on Pyongyang to immediately cease shelling, stressing that such actions “threaten peace on the Korean peninsula and only increase tension”.
Around 200 artillery shells were fired by North Korea near the two South Korean islands on the western border on the day before. This was the occasion for South Korea and the United States to conduct military exercises near the DPRK border.
