Swiss Senate votes in favor of transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine

The Swiss Cantonal Council has approved the idea of using frozen assets of the Bank of Russia for the needs of Ukraine. 21 senators voted in favor, 19 voted against, three more abstained, AFP reports.

The agency said that more than 8 billion dollars belonging to the Russian Central Bank had been frozen in Switzerland.

However, the senators’ decision has no mandatory force and it is not known whether the cabinet will take such a step.
