The attack occurred near the main symbol of Paris – the Eiffel Tower, the Minister of the Interior of the country. The Minister added that the attacker was apprehended.
According to reports, the assailant first stabbed one person and then attempted to attack other passers-by, armed with a hammer. The victims were provided with all necessary assistance.
The attacker was already under the supervision of the French special services. The detainee is said to have mental health problems.
Police sources say the assailant was a French national born in the country.
The French Prime Minister, Elizabeth Bourne, expressed sympathy for the victims and thanked the emergency services for their quick response.
