Scottie Scheffler Poised to Dominate 2026 PGA Championship as Heavy Favorite at Aronimink
Scheffler took advantage of two long birdie putts and one big break on the 17th hole for a 3-under 67 to share the lead with six other players — former PGA champion Martin Kaymer perhaps the biggest surprise — on a tough day in the Philadelphia suburbs.
Four players from four continents with a total of zero major championships share the lead midway through the first round of the PGA Championship.
With favorites falling to the wayside all over the undulating greens at Aronimink Golf Club, the ever-unflappable Scheffler sits atop the leaderboard after the opening day’s golf in Philadelphia.
For now, it's nothing too raucous, just a few dozen fans who stayed late Thursday afternoon to watch the end of teaching professional Michael Block's first round of the PGA Championship.
