Scott Pelley has heated confrontation with new '60 Minutes' boss, accuses Bari Weiss of 'murdering' show
A staff meeting at 60 Minutes turned tense on Monday when correspondent Scott Pelley openly challenged newly appointed executive producer Nick Bilton over recent changes at the CBS news program.
Several dozen veterans of CBS News – including many former 60 Minutes employees – signed a letter to the Paramount Skydance CEO, David Ellison, on Monday, pressing him to commit to the show’s editorial independence four days after network management fired several top staffers and correspondents.
The meeting quickly turned tense — not a surprise after months of strain between veteran journalists at “60 Minutes” and Ms. Weiss, an opinion journalist who was a longtime critic of legacy media institutions before she became the head of one last year.
The divergent opinions reflect the severe tensions on display at “60 Minutes,” which have been exacerbated by fears about CBS’s parent company, Paramount, attempting to curry favor with President Donald Trump.
