PSG down Aston Villa to retain UEFA Super Cup

Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain rubber-stamped their status as Europe's top team as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, August 12.

Villa teenager Brian Madjo scored a glorious debut equaliser to cancel out Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s opening goal.

There were huge cheers when Unai Emery’s face appeared on the big screens in opposite corners after the teams were read aloud and hearty roars for the £38m arrival João Gomes and Madjo, the hulking forward handed his full Villa debut.

But Désiré Doué’s winner meant Luis Enrique was able to celebrate a European “double-double” with PSG becoming only the third club to retain the trophy after AC Milan in 1990 and Real Madrid in 2017.
