Pakistan army chief Munir to visit Tehran as push to revive Iran-US talks intensifies
Pakistan is increasingly positioning itself as one of the Middle East’s most important diplomatic players.
Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Arrived Tehran on Monday, August 24, 2026, amid escalating military and political tensions between the United States and Iran.
The Pakistani military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), as well as the Foreign Ministry and Information Ministry, did not respond to Al Jazeera’s requests for comment on the visit, which was unusually announced by Tehran rather than Islamabad.
The visit highlights Pakistan's balancing act between its ties with Iran and its new defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
