One dead, two missing after boat with 19 aboard capsizes in San Francisco Bay, near Alcatraz
A boat carrying 17 people caught fire in San Francisco Bay on Tuesday.
Emergency crews responded to a pontoon boat that sank Tuesday afternoon in the waters off San Francisco while carrying mostly family members as part of a memorial service.
The vessel, described as a “pontoon pleasure boat” by San Francisco fire Lt Mariano Elias, was about 600 yards (548 meters) from the island when the fire began.
The incident happened in the Bay, in between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island.
