Nepal warns of fresh risk as lake in flood area threatens to burst
Surveillance footage posted on Chinese social media shows a wall of mud and debris rushing towards the port, with people running as parked vehicles were surrounded by floodwater.
The lake currently holds nearly two million cubic metres of water, and satellite reports suggest that the volume could rise to three million cubic metres within the next three days.
A day after the deadly Nepal flash floods, scientists and disaster-response agencies continued to work out what had caused the wall of water, mud and debris that tore through the Himalayan river valleys along the China-Nepal border on August 26.
At around 10:30 am on Wednesday, a mudslide on the Nepal side caused major casualties and left people missing at Gyirong Port in Gyirong County in Xizang.
