Mystery winner buys T-rex nicknamed 'Gus' for a record $50 million at auction
It stands at 3.8 metres (12.5ft) tall and has been an attraction at the auction house’s new headquarters in New York.
A 67 million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex has been sold for £37.4m ($50.1m) at a Sotheby's auction in New York – the most ever paid for a dinosaur.
Marks across the skeleton, including healed fractures and what appear to be bite wounds to the skull, suggest Gus survived violent encounters with other predators during its lifetime roughly 67 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous period.
The towering skeleton, nicknamed Gus, was sold after a nearly 10-minute bidding war.
