Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, alleged chief planner of 9/11 attacks, gets 2028 trial date
Judge schedules KSM’s Guantánamo trial, but torture and evidence fights still loom
Alleged 9/11 terror attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will stand trial in June 2028, more than a quarter of a century after what the US government has called "the most egregious criminal act on American soil in modern history".
Michael Schrama, a military commissions judge, set the tentative trial date for June 5, 2028 — some 20 years after Mohammed and his co-defendants were first arraigned in 2008 and 27 years after the 9/11 attacks.
Among the biggest issues are the confessions gotten from the men after they were detained in CIA prisons where torture, abuse and isolation were used.
