Keiko Fujimori narrowly wins Peru’s presidential runoff

Peru’s conservative president-elect Keiko Fujimori vowed on Monday to restore “order and hope” after defeating left-winger Roberto Sanchez in the latest victory for a resurgent Latin American right.

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori is ahead in Peru’s presidential race as the country’s electoral authorities concluded their tally of the vote count after a contentious run-off, which her leftist rival has refused to recognise.

Her win also means the name Fujimori is back in the presidential palace more than two decades after the fall of her late iron-fisted father, Alberto.

Her victory brings the political movement founded by her late father back to power a quarter century after the collapse of his authoritarian government.
