Judge Rules Trump IRS Immunity Deal Has No ‘Basis in Law’

Judge Kathleen M. Williams voided Trump’s agreement with the IRS, which included a $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization fund” for the president’s allies and a sweeping immunity agreement shielding him, his sons and other “related parties” from some prosecution or civil action from the federal government.

The ruling from US district judge Kathleen Williams in the southern district of Florida blocks a widely criticized arrangement the government and the president’s attorneys reached earlier this year to resolve a $10bn lawsuit by Trump and his sons over the leak of the president’s tax returns.

What she's saying: U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams sanctioned the lawyers, deeming the lawsuit to have been "improperly employed" to justify the settlement fund.

Williams in her order also referred Trump's lawyer in the lawsuit, Alejandro Brito, to the Florida bar for consideration on whether Brito should be disciplined in light of the findings in the new order.
