ICE Officer Fatally Shoots Mexican Immigrant in Texas, DHS Says

Greg Abbott threatened to cut more than $100 million in state funding for public safety.

The man killed on Tuesday was identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, described by ICE as a Mexican national and “illegal alien” who attempted to evade arrest during a “targeted enforcement operation” by federal immigration officers.

DHS accused the man of attempting “to evade arrest.”

Araujo tried evading the ICE officers when he "weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense."
