Hong Kong Police Raid Two Bookstores, Arrest Five Over Alleged Seditious Books
HONG KONG — Hong Kong authorities have raided two bookstores and arrested five people on suspicion of selling allegedly seditious publications, local media reported Wednesday, in the latest step targeting independent booksellers.
Videos and photos from multiple media outlets on Wednesday showed officers wearing vests marked with “police” seizing boxes from the building that houses Have A Nice Stay, a bookshop founded by former journalists.
Officers seized books and made multiple arrests during the operation.
The group — two men aged 37 and 57, and three women aged between 30 and 59 — are suspected of violating national security legislation by "acting with seditious intent".
