Hegseth steps away from war duties to campaign against Trump foe

Massie, a conservative known for repeatedly breaking with his own party, provoked Trump’s anger after opposing US strikes on Iran and backing efforts to release files linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

Hegseth, who is scheduled to appear at a rally for Gallrein in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, will also conduct official Pentagon business earlier in the day at Fort Campbell, where he is expected to award Purple Hearts to soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division and administer the oath of enlistment to nearly 190 reenlistees.
