Google Fined $1 Billion Under EU’s Tech Antitrust Rules

In a decision likely to intensify trans-Atlantic trade tensions, European Union regulators on Thursday hit Google with a $1 billion fine for illegally undercutting competition through its dominance as a search engine.

The European Union on Thursday, July 23, slapped Google with fines worth €890 million in a move that risks escalating tensions with the United States.

It fined the company €460 million ($524.7 million) and €430 million ($490 million) respectively, for the two separate misdemeanours.

Google has been fined a total of €890m (£760m) by the EU for breaches of online competition laws by its search and app store services.
