Flock announces changes amid backlash over its license plate reader network

Controversial surveillance technology company Flock Safety has unveiled sweeping new privacy "guardrails," seemingly intended to quell growing unrest over its devices' presence across the country.

Flock Safety will implement new privacy and data retention policies as pressure grows on the automated license plate operator to prevent its technology from being abused or used to conduct mass surveillance.

Flock Safety is among the country's largest providers of ALPRs, which scan and record vehicle information that can then be searched by a policing network.
