Five dead, 41 missing in Indonesia ferry fire

The incident occurred 19 nautical miles north of Sapudi Island in the waters off Sumenep, at coordinates 06°30'64" South Latitude and 114°00'19" East Longitude.

Search and rescue is working to rescue people from the water after the ferry carrying 250 people caught fire.

Footage played by local Indonesian news outlet iNews shows large numbers of people in life jackets on what appears to be a lifeboat.

The vessel, operating on the Surabaya-Makassar route, was carrying 271 people, including 232 passengers and 39 crew members.
