Europeans from Spain to the United Kingdom have been sweltering under extreme heat this week, with temperatures surging to near or above 40 degrees Celsius even before peak summer takes hold.
He also asked ministers for their views on establishing maximum workplace temperatures, prescribing active cooling such as air conditioning and changing school timetables.
New June temperature records were set in the U.K. and France this week as a deadly heat wave grips much of Europe.
