DR Congo Ebola health workers protest unpaid wages as deaths surpass 1,800
Dozens of health workers working at the epicenter of Congo’s Ebola outbreak staged protests Thursday to demand payment for their wages, abandoning several health facilities and disrupting care in the world’s fastest-growing Ebola outbreak.
DR Congo has recorded nearly 4,000 confirmed cases of Ebola and over 1,800 deaths, as the epidemic resurges.
Cardboard boxes piled up in the courtyard of the Action Against Hunger (ACF) offices in Mongbwalu, the small town that has become the epicenter of the Ebola virus outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, which was officially declared in mid-May.
The vessel, which traveled from the outbreak-hit Tshopo province, was halted about 65 km from central Kinshasa.
