Deadly fire rips through Dominican Republic resort; Italian tourist killed, hundreds flee in panic

One tourist died in the fire and several others required medical assistance

A woman has died after a huge fire tore through a luxury beach resort in the Dominican Republic, with some 1,700 tourists evacuated to escape the raging inferno.

About 1,700 tourists were evacuated as the fire appeared to destroy most of the hotel.

Bayahibe is a popular destination for American and international tourists on the southeastern coast of the island.
