David Crowley defeats Francesca Hong to win Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor
Francesca Hong and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley separated by only a few hundred votes.
A series of closely watched primaries across the Upper Midwest delivered key victories for the Democratic Party’s progressive wing Tuesday night — with one major test still hanging in the balance in battleground Wisconsin.
David Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive and standard-bearer for moderates in the race, exceeded all expectations by remaining neck and neck with State Representative Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist who built a supercharged campaign of energized supporters and overwhelmingly led in most public polls.
Both candidates were waiting for the final ballots to come in before announcing next steps.
