Almost 1,000 kilometers west of Beijing, the Chinese army has built a city in the middle of the Inner Mongolia desert.
Experts have analyzed the structure of buildings and streets and it turned out that the military construction is an exact copy of the government district of Taipei – the capital of democratic Taiwan.
The building can be seen on satellite images from Apple and Bing. Many of the buildings are a moulage consisting of only the facade.
A total of ten streets have been recreated in the desert, as well as intersections and central squares. According to Taiwanese publications, the replica government district is located in the desert on a military training ground. It includes roads as well as the offices of Taiwan’s chief executive, parliament, the island’s foreign ministry and other government buildings.
Experts believe that this simulation can be used for missile and bombing exercises.
It is noted that this is not the first such mockup. At another training ground in Inner Mongolia, a neighborhood near the office of Taiwan’s chief executive was previously recreated in detail. In 2015, China Central Television published footage of an exercise in which servicemen practiced assaulting a replica of the “presidential palace” at this training ground.
