Cargo ship reportedly attacked in Red Sea off Yemen

Security guards aboard a bulk carrier trade gunfire with armed attackers in a skiff off the coast of Yemen, escalating concerns over vital Red Sea trade lanes.

Also this weekend, Yemen's Houthi rebels killed 16 troops in an attack on government-aligned forces, in some of the most violent fighting seen between the sides in years.

The incident occurred near Hodeidah, with the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirming the attack and launching an investigation.

A skiff approached the vessel and opened fire, prompting the ship's armed security team to return fire.
