Canada’s Prime Minister to Wall Street: We Still Need Each Other
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called for a new partnership with the United States on Thursday, just weeks before President Donald Trump decides on whether to renew the free trade agreement between the countries.
Carney spoke to the Economic Club of New York, outlining Canada's economic strategy and the progress made so far.
He made the remarks ahead of the mandatory review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in July.
His address comes amid an ongoing trade dispute with the U.S., which has seen Carney vow to double Canadian exports to other markets within the next decade and sign more than 20 economic and security deals in the past year.
