Canada Proposes Social-Media Ban for Children Under 16
Proposed law would bar under-16s from opening or maintaining accounts
Canada’s culture minister on Wednesday introduced legislation that would ban children under 16 from having social media accounts and require AI chatbot services to limit production of harmful content.
The law includes sweeping measures to regulate AI chatbots and curtail "harmful content" online.
Now, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government is weighing whether to introduce a ban on social media platforms for children under 16, as public opinion in Britain has coalesced around the idea that more needs to be done to keep children safe online.
