Boat captain detained by ICE after New York Harbor capsize that killed mother, infant
Manuel Hernandez was first arrested earlier this month, and charged with reckless endangerment leading to death.
Manuel Ernesto Hernandez-Umana, 46, was arrested on August 9 and charged after a boat carrying 14 people capsized near the Statue of Liberty.
The two victims were named by the New York police department (NYPD) as 27-year-old Sara Sanchez and her five-month-old daughter, Antonella, who were pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The pilot of a speedboat that capsized during a tour around the Statue of Liberty, drowning an infant and her mother, has been arrested by U.S. immigration authorities who say he was in the country illegally.
