He came from Korea “to visit his girlfriend.”
U.S. media reports the detention of 34-year-old sergeant Gordon D. Bleck in Vladivostok. The man was arrested on May 2. Details about how he got to Vladivostok are unknown, but U.S. officials say the sergeant “arrived in Russia on his own during a change of duty station from Korea to a base in the United States.” Gordon was detained on charges of “theft.”

Melody Jones, the sergeant’s mother, told CBS News that her son had traveled to Russia to visit his girlfriend.
“Please don’t torture [my son – ed.] and don’t hurt him,” Jones told reporters when asked what she wanted to give to the Russians.
