AI giants back employee-led push asking US government to ‘deliberately pace’ development
Top staffers from the biggest AI and technology companies urged the US government to slow the pace of artificial intelligence development so that safety and security measures can catch up in an open letter.
More than 1,000 employees at America’s leading AI companies, including senior staff and some co-founders at OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind, signed a new statement asking the U.S. government to help support international efforts to “deliberately pace” cutting-edge automated AI development.
Nearly 150 companies want no new restrictions on open-weight AI models, the kind anyone can download and modify.
OpenAI and Anthropic also endorsed the initiative as companies, marking a rare public alignment between two leading competitors on AI safety.
