In 2014, a citizen of Kazakhstan, who lived in Belarus, went to Ukraine and joined the pro-Russian separatists as a sniper.
During the hostilities, the man was wounded by a fragmentation grenade and received a contusion. After that he returned to Belarus, where he was arrested for illegal acquisition and storage of ammunition and deported to his home country. There the man was awaiting trial for participation in a military conflict on the territory of another state.
Context: In Kazakhstan, 25 criminal cases on participation of the country’s citizens in foreign armed conflicts were initiated in the first nine months of 2023.
