Zelenskyy urged Biden and Xi to attend peace summit in Switzerland

President Zelenskyy reported that more than 80 countries have confirmed their participation in the peace summit in Switzerland. He called on the leaders of the USA and China to take part in the event.

The Ukrainian president said that Russia was trying to “normalize” the aggression against Ukraine and stressed that no country could deal with such a threat without international assistance. He noted that Ukraine already has “the world’s richest” experience of listening to lies from Russia during negotiations.

“That is why we need a global effort. A global summit of the world – of leaders that Russia will not be able to deceive … Already more than 80 countries have confirmed participation, and we continue to work with leaders, inviting them to join,” the president said.

Zelenskyy appealed to world leaders to show determination for peace and support the global summit, “I call on global leaders who are still standing aside from the global efforts of the summit – U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Please show leadership in promoting real peace, not one that will be a pause between blows … Support the peace summit with your leadership and participation,” he added.

Media reports say that President Biden is likely to skip the peace summit because of a campaign fundraiser in California. Earlier, President Zelenskyy at a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the importance of Biden’s presence at the summit.
