Zelensky sacks Ukraine’s top general after days of protests

Oleksandr Syrsky came days after the Ukrainian president fired Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

When their personalities and policies clashed, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy decided one of them had to go as part of a wider government reshuffle.

The move to replace Fedorov was part of a major government reshuffle last week in which Ukraine's parliament appointed Serhii Koretskyi as prime minister.

As several thousand people waving cardboard signs have descended on a central square in the capital, angry about the firing of the popular young defense minister, Mr. Zelensky’s administration has signaled an openness to compromise.
